The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday said Prophet Ernest Chukwuemeka, arrested in Ikorodu for alleged kidnapping, was granted bail due to lack of substantive evidence against him.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ngozi Braide, made the disclosure, stressing that they were still investigating the case.

“The prophet is on bail. We can’t just detain someone because of allegations that cannot be substantiated. From preliminary investigations, we have not found any evidence to detain the prophet,” she said.

“We have also sent the woman who made the allegation to the psychiatric hospital to ascertain her sanity. We are waiting for the result…

“We have nothing against the prophet, but as investigation continues, if we found him culpable, we will arrest him for prosecution,” Braide said.

The prophet, through the spokesman of Holy Family and Happy Family Ministry, Evang. Patrick Adebayo, denied all allegations made against him.

The prophet said the woman found with the boy was neither a member nor a worker of his praying ministry.

He stressed that the building, where some people were reportedly found in chains, was only used to pray for people suspected to be with unstable mind and not for rituals, as it was alleged.

The police in Lagos on June 30, arrested Chukwuemeka, the leader of Holy Family and Happy Family Ministry, an inter-denominational prayer ministry, over an the alleged abduction of a boy for rituals.
